One of the most celebrated events in Eastern Bhutan, Gomphu kora Tshechu (which literally translates to festival of circumambulation) is held in the sacred grounds of the Gomkora temple in Trashigang dzongkhag. The festival is observed in the month of March-April and is attended by devotees throughout the country and also from people across the northern Indian state of Arunachal Pradesh.
Legend has that Guru Rinpoche (8th Century AD) subdued a maglignant spirit that was residing in the area and built a temple to subjugate it. The temple is replete with sacred sites related to the adventure and is considered one of the most sacred temples in the country.
